~Zack Fair X Reader~

Part three: Give me a sign

That terrible smell of disinfection alcohol.
It was so obnoxious and almost unbearable.

You slowly fluttered your eyes from the nap and slowly dismissed the sleepiness

Where am I?
And how did I get in here?
What happened before I woke up?

Your (e/c) eyes slowly scanned the room you were in and the
information quickly got to your tired brain - You were at the infirmary. But you weren't alone. You've noticed the light weight over your legs, so you looked in that direction, only to find that azure eyed ravenette is sleeping over them.
Was he the one who brought you here? You slowly moved one of your legs and shifted him in intention to wake him up. Zack groanned slightly, but soon enough sat back in his chair

"Oh, heya ________! Are you feeling any better?" He asked while flashing you that charming grin of his. You yawned a little and smiled back at him
"Just a little peachy" Right arm of yours was bandaged up and you had few stitches on your head, which you didn't seem to notice before, nor knew how you earned them
"H-how did I get in here, anyway?" Your voice was slightly raspy from the sleep. Zack smiled and rose his head up a little in a triumphat fashion

"I've brought you here!" He pointed to his chest with his thumb, causing a small giggle to escape your lips
"Well then, thank you 2nd class SOLDIER, Zack~" You smiled and looked around, this was totally new point of view for you - You've been here thousands of times, but never in a hospital bed

"________? What's the matter?" Zack cut off your train of thoughts, slight worry in his voice. You only smiled and shook your head
"O-oh! It's nothing, really. Thanks for helping me out." You put some of your hair behind your ear and smiled
"So we are even now?" You lend out your hand. Zack looked at it, then at you and smiled again
"Even!"

'He is so adorable and friendly to a person he knows about two days...
Could it be because I've helped him, as well?

You flipped the blanket off your body, revealing your fully bandadged torso and arm
"Ugh... This doesn't seem pretty, heh..." You smile and swish your feet over the bed and suddenly feel a hand on your shoulder
"Where do you think you're going, ________?" Zack glared at you, scolding you gently
"You are still not capable of even walking from that blood loss" You couldn't help but smile at him, he was so caring
"Don't you worry about me! And besides, I've got work to do!" He scoffed, stood up and helped you get down.

You put on your black blazer and fixed your hair slightly, then headed outside with Zack following you.

"Shouldn't you be on a mission, rather that taking care of me?" You asked him, sort of glad he stayed by your side until you awoke
"W-well, actually Angeal told me to." He sorta tangled up in his own words "You see, after you passed out, I've called him and he told me to 'Get you the hell to infirmary and stay there'."
You couldn't help but giggle at his immitation of the 1st.

"And you 'Remained the hell there'" Now it was his turn to laugh at your joke. As two of you walked, Reno called you and told you that you're with him on a mission tomorrow. It was about 8 p.m. by now and almost time to go to bed.

Zack escorted you back to your room, just to make sure you won't collapse or something. Whe you got there, the two of you said your goodbyes and you went to your room. Even though you've slept the most of the day, you were still very tired. Must be that blood loss Zack was talking about. Anyhow, you have a mission and bunch of paperwork to fill in for tomorrow, so better be fresh and well-slept for tomorrow. As soon as your head hit the pillow, you doozed off.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.
Your limpy hand tapped over the surface of the wooden nighstand, in order to turn the annoying beeper off.
A loud groan that turned into a yawn escaped your sleepy throat. You got up and went to the bathroom, then put your clothes on, took your gun and shocker, then left your appartment. You headed towards the Tseng's office to get information about your partner and your mission.

Another day, another monotone and slow-passing day. Nothing interesting ever happened, unless a monster to get rid of here and there. The cold air that reeked of rain was entering through the huge, blurry windows of the ShinRa building. You kind of looked like the Death, dragging yourself lifelessly, while nothing in the ugly gray building was alive, except for the Turks and SOLDIERs. Those secretaries didn't even know how lucky they were, for they didn't have to wake up so early in the morning, then dragging themselves to their executives, then looking all the way around for their partners for the missions, then staying outside in the cold wind and freezing. Not that you hated your job, just on the contrary! You loved it, but it was exahusting.

Anyhow, there you were, just metres away from your boss' office. Honestly, today you just wanted to dissapear and enjoy a bit for a change.

Again, your boss, Tseng, gave you really nothing special to work on today, but simply to patrol around the building, along with Reno. It was chilly, the same as it was yesterday...
And day before.
And day before that day before.
And few weeks ago.
You could definitely feel the sharp gradience between temperament autumn and blood freezing winter.
Reno and you were suppossed to go outside and simply walk around, but when he saw you shiverring, he sent you back to your room to get a coat. As you arrived there, right there on the door was a little piece of paper with a messy writting, saying:

Hey, ________!
If you maybe have some free time
today after your shift, maybe you
want to hang out a little?

You couldn't help but smile. You know how some people turn their back to you pretty fast? Well, apparently Zack isn't that type.

After picking up your (f/c) coat, you hurried back outside back to Reno. As you ran out of the door, the strong gust of freezing wing painted your nose and cheeks a pretty shade of rosey pink. It didn't take you long to find Reno.
Two of you walked around together, talking about whatnot. Reno had his hands in pockets casually, while you were tugging onto your coat, which wasn't that warm anymore

"So, _______..." Reno looked at you with smugly smirk. Oh no. What did he find out now?
"What's up with that soldier?" Your cheeks became a little redder than it already was
"W-who? Who are you talking about? I don't know who are you talking about!" Your eyes darted around the path you were walking, remembering the note you noticed on the door of your room
"You know exactly who I'm talking about" His smirk became even wider; He was right. You knew who he was talking about
"I-I... W-we... We are friends. Yeah! just friends, Reno!" You exclaimed, hoping he won't see through your cheesy lie. Unfortunately, he probably did, but he simply added a knowing 'A-ha...' and stopped the further questioning.

This autumn was killing you, so cold. So unbearably cold.

After about five hours of wandering around and listening to Reno's jokes and talking, Cissnei and Rude finally came to take over the shift. You greeted Reno and Rude and headed towards your room to change. But before you could enter the building, someone tugged onto your coat. You turned around to see Cissnei grinning widely, head tilted to the side in a curious manner
"Where are you goooing?" She asked, trying to sound cute. You sighed and rolled your eyes
"Not you, too... Reno was enough to me." Your over dramatical sigh caused her to giggle
"You know you can't hide anything from me, _______" You gave up, you know that there's no escape from your best friends
"Fine, fine..." You rose your hands a little in defense "I'm going to meet with Zack" Your answer made her squeal a little and smile wide like a child that just got a puppy with a huge red ribbon
"That's so adorable! Well, then I won't hold you back" She smiled, then waved you a goodbye and left towards Rude.
Seriously, that girl sometimes... Anyway, where were you supposed to meet him again?


You were just done fixing your hair and applying some make up. You took your coat and cellphone. Should you call him and ask where the two of you should meet? But his number? You never asked for it. Great...
Just in that exact moment your cellphone rang, but you didn't recognise the number

"Hello?" You answered somewhat unsurely
"________? Is that you?" That cheery voice. You knew that voice!
"Zack? Um... Hi!"
"Hey, just wanted to ask where we should meet? I'm currently at the simulation chamber." He told you, standing at the door of the chamber, looking around as if he would see you anywhere
"Well, I was just leaving my room. Stay where you are, I'll come to you" Now, there was no dillema. But you should hurry, don't want to leave him waiting
"Okay, see ya there~" He grinned and hung up. You put your cellphone in your pocket and headed outside.

Again, that long hallways of the Turk's floor. You were already starting to wonder if you maybe got lost when you noticed the elevator

Finally...

With the soft 'bing' the doors of the elevator openned, revealing the tall 1st class SOLDIER, Genesis.
Two of you never liked each other too much, but you were still friends. How? Only God knows. In the matter of fact, you always tried to get each other in troubles, simply out of fun. You know that sort of love/hate friendships? Well, this was it...

You've entered the elevator, pushed the button and hung your head low, murmuring "Hello". Although, he seemed in somewhat good mood today
"Hello to you too, ________" You glanced up at him, only to see him wearing a wicked smirk. What was he up to this time?
"Someone's in a good mood, I see..." Your comment made him chuckle and you to frown
"How could I not be? Tseng invited me to sort out the couples for tomorrow's mission." This caught your attention
"What mission?" You looked up at him, quizzical look on your face
"In Gongaga. Two of the Turks and two of the SOLDIERS are going." You cackled softly, gaining his interest
"What is so funny?"
"You are going to, Genesis?" Your question made him laugh and shake his head
"Of course, I haven't been there in ages! Now, I just require someone from SOLDIER to go with me"
You were just about to comment when the doors openned.

"I guess we'll see each other around, then" You greeted him and left, walking quickly through the halls, passing the infirmary, the lab and finally noticing Zack.

You smiled and waved gently. He noticed you, as well and grinned.
"You're fast!" He walked over to you and you smiled
"I try~"
"Then, shall we?" He motioned towards the elevator you just came from.

Two of you exited the tremendous building and walked under the starry sky. The night was so peaceful and beautiful.
The cold wind wasn't there anymore. Instead, there was a soft cool breeze and the sky was absolutely clear and perfect.
You looked up at Zack and smiled, he copied your motions
"Yes, _______?"
"Where are we going?" You asked, quite excited about the rendez vous
"Hm..." He scratched the back of his head sheepishly "Haven't really thought about that..." He admited, grinning widely
You put your hands on your hips and looked around, searching for a place the two of you could finally settle

"Hey!" His raised voice made you jump and turn around to look at him
"Yes, Zack?!" You exclaimed and waved with your arm around  "You scared the hell outta me!"
Zack chuckled and apologized quietly, then lend his arm out as far as it can go and pointed over to somewhere. You stood beside him and put you head on his shoulder, following his arm
"There!" He exclaimed happily and you removed you head, finally realising what he saw; The beautiful little spot, just a little farther away where the two of you were standing. It gave a wonderful view on the Mako reactor and the Midgar. You nodded and grabbed his, then proceeded to drag him up the hill. He laughed at you, not because you were funny, but because how enthusiastic you are. As the two of you finally got there, he plopped down on the grassy floor and you did the same, undoing the first few buttons of your coat because the running made you a little warmer.

 Zack's gaze travelled somewhere in the distance, his perfect cerullean eyes reflecting the beautiful shinning stars. You glanced over at him, studying his features: Fluffy raven hair, it is probably so soft to the touch... His eyes, they would put the brightest sea to the shame. And his face... Such handsome contures of his face, manly but then again, so gentle and soft.

"_________?" His voice snapped you out of your thoughts and you didn't even realise that he was looking at you all this time, your (e/c) eyes meeting his own azure eyes. A soft shade of pink tinted your cheeks. He tilted his head slightly and gave you a soft smile. But not one of that dorky grins he flashes when he does something stupid. No, this was sweet, soft and friendly smile that made you return the gesture
"You are cute when you blush" Zack complimented you and brushed your cheek with the back of his hand, causing you to blush about five shades of red.

'He's so sweet and nice to me,
like no one before him. What make him so special?
His friendly and cheery nature?
Or perfect lines of his face and cerullean eyes?
But whatever it is, he is...
Perfect?'

You gave a shy shrug and then turned back to the sky, looking at the pale new moon. Zack left his gaze of your face for a little while, then looked at the same direction as you.
When you were sure he wasn't looking, you've planted a kiss so soft, almost like a feather, on his soft cheek and then rested your head and his shoudler. His eyes widenned slightly as he smiled at you and kissed the top of your head and then resting his own head on the top of your, making you giggle and rub your cheek on his shoulder

"You are truly fascinating, Zack..." He chuckled at you and slightly tilted his head to somewhat see you
"How so?"
"Well, you are so simple, but yet so mysterious..." Your comment made him laugh gently, his smooth voice sounding like a lullaby
"You see, I could tell the exact thing for you, __________"

Two of you sat like that for a while, hours passing like moments as the two of you talked of whatnot. Maybe the love on the first sight really exists?
Well, if you didn't believe by now, you shall from now on.

Little the two of you knew was that you were being watched. A certain auburn haired poet was leaning on the outer wall of ShinRa building, black haired Turk accompanying him.
Tseng looked at the two of you and then back at Genesis, eyes locked
"Them?"
Genesis nodded towards two of you and smirked
